She has covered sports for some of the biggest outlets around the globe. She reported on basketball, football as well as Grand Slam Tennis for The Washington Post. Nichols was a reporter for nine years during her time with ESPN which saw her win 2 Emmy Awards, and featured on many of ESPN's top programs like NFL Countdown and SportsCenter. Reporters were also at the sidelines, she was also a part of Monday Night Football. Then, she switched to CNN sports and then Turner. Nichols was a reporter with TNT in the time period reporting on NBA broadcasts, including regular season games, playoffs or teams from the All-Star league. The reporter also reported on baseball, golf as well as Final Four broadcasts for CBS and TBS. It was the only occasion in the award's 42 year record that a woman is nominated amongst the more than 200 nominations.
